Guest Blogger: Youth Party ? DIY Bar or Bat Mitzvah Themes

Guest Blogger #661, Entry #1571, September 7, 2012

Party ideas and themes can often be a challenge to think of, especially for children. A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is one of the most important events for a young Jewish person. This is an exciting time for both the children and their families as they prepare to mark the passage into adulthood. If you are a parent whose son or daughter is preparing for this life-changing occasion, then you have undoubtedly begun the process of planning and organizing the momentous celebration.

One of the first things to consider is the theme of the party, as the rest of the details will evolve from this.

Choose a theme for the Bar or Bat Mitzvah

You?ll want to select a theme that reflects your child?s personality and interests. For example, if you have a son passionate about cars, choose a racing theme. You can name each table after a different car, and use highway signs for the table numbers. Other ideas include incorporating the signature black and white racing checkered streamers in unique ways ? use them as napkin rings, use them for centerpieces, or line the tables with them. Hang banners over doorways or entranceways named after streets ? you can even personalize them. For example, ?Sam?s Street,? or ?Ron?s Road.?

If you have a daughter who loves Broadway, try a Broadway theme. Invitations can be done in the form of Broadway tickets, and tables can be themed after specific shows. Create a mock ?Will Call? booth for when guests arrive to check in and receive their table assignments, and a Playbill with her on the cover. Have the DJ or band play notable show tunes throughout the celebration.

No matter what theme you select, the Bar or Bat Mitzvah should be about one thing: your child. Choose a theme that fits in your budget and reflects something which your son or daughter is passionate about.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah?s can range from low-key celebrations in your home?s backyard, to all-out celebrations that rival MTV?s ?My Super Sweet 16.? Regardless of the type of party you are throwing, be sure to choose a Bar Mitzvah party space, whether it?s your backyard or a hall, that can accommodate your theme.
