I do have questions. What type of training have these undercover agents been through? What type of gadgetry is available? Would I be correct in saying that they're sorta like Charlie's Angels, only pop stars and assassins?

Here?s a 7-step action plan for turning a half-written, or unsold, nonfiction book into publishing profits.

A half-written book languishing on your hard drive isn?t doing you any good?whether caused by a lack of interest from trade publishers or a lack of self-publishing experience.

Here?s what you can do to turn the disappointment of a half-written nonfiction book into publishing profits.

  1. Goals. Start by reviewing your writing goals. What were your original goals and objectives in writing a nonfiction book? Were you attracted by potential profits from book sales, the expert positioning that would jump start your coaching or consulting business, or were you motivated by a desire to share your knowledge with others? More important, how had you originally intended to profit from your book?
  2. Title. Next, review your book?s original title and subtitle. How well does the title and subtitle describe the benefits offered by your unfinished book?? How had you market-tested your book title? How did you know you had chosen the right title?   7. Recommit. Simply committing specific times to work on your project will replace your current disappointment with a feeling of optimism, and, in coming weeks, the more you accomplish, the better you?ll feel.

Iowa takes a step toward legalizing some online poker

DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Iowa took a step toward legalizing on-line poker on Tuesday because supporters said the state is losing millions of dollars in revenue annually to companies outside the state and overseas running the games.

The Iowa Senate voted 29-20 in favor of legislation that would give state-licensed casinos authority to run poker games online for patrons as long as the computer and the person are located in Iowa.

Nevada and the District of Columbia have voted to legalize online poker but are still drawing up the rules to regulate it.

Democratic Senator Jeff Danielson said Iowa residents wager an estimated $30 million in online poker games every year, money that is often going to overseas companies running the online games.

"That's a problem for our overall economy to see that kind of leakage," Danielson said.

Iowa Republican Governor Terry Branstad said he is open to considering the bill.

"In terms of regulating and controlling gambling in this state, our top priority has been to keep it honest, clean, open, transparent and keep the criminal element out," Branstad said.

Branstad is in his fifth term as governor. During that tenure Branstad has signed bills legalizing parimutuel racing and creating a state-run lottery as well as a series of casino-related bills. There are 17 state-licensed casinos operating in Iowa, all of which could contract with an internet provider to run on-line poker games if the bill becomes law.

While 20 senators voted against legalizing on-line poker, none of the opponents voiced objections during senate debate of the bill.?It is unclear whether the legislation can survive a deadline in the Iowa House, as the bill must clear a committee in the House by Friday to remain eligible for debate.

Toddler Drowns In Septic Tank Behind Family's Home | News One

Toddler drowns in septic tank

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) ? A toddler whose body was found inside a septic tank behind her home, just hours after being reported missing by her mother, died of accidental drowning, an autopsy showed Tuesday.

A preliminary investigation found ?no indication of foul play or trauma,? Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said.

The 2-year-old victim, identified by authorities only by the initials J.C., was reported missing by her mother, Marina Matias, shortly before 5 p.m. Monday. She had been playing in the yard with four siblings.

Search teams quickly found a 3-foot-wide hole in the yard that led to a septic tank, and the Public Works Department was called to pump water from the tank. The girl?s body was found inside it around 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, toys were strewn about the yard of the ramshackle property, and the front door of the small house sat open. Police tape cordoned off the area where the top of the tank had been covered with dirt. The tank sat just a few feet outside the back door to the home, next to an outbuilding.

Public records listed the property?s owners as Catherine and Thomas Feeks of Sunnyside, N.Y. A message left at a number listed under their name was not returned.

A man who said he has rented a room in the house from Matias and her husband said he was surprised that the opening to the septic tank was big enough for the girl, whom he called Jenny, to slip through.

The man, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he said he feared retaliation, said the family is from the Mexican state of Puebla.

He said the father, whom he identified as Erasmo Castro, holds down two factory jobs and that the mother stayed home to take care of their children, including an infant.

Neighbor Richard Castelluci, who has lived next door for nine years, said he thought the family had now abandoned the house. He said it has been rented out to families with children, like other homes in the area.

?It?s so sad, you know, you can?t bring the kid back,? he said.

Ethiopian troops clash with al Shabaab in Somalia

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Dozens died in fighting between al Shabaab rebels and Ethiopian troops near the central Somali town of Baidoa and another small town on Saturday, residents, regional officials and the Islamist rebels said.

There were differing accounts of which side bore the brunt of casualties in the small town of Yurkud early on Saturday, the heaviest clashes involving Ethiopian troops since they returned to Somalia in force last year after withdrawing in early 2009.

Ethiopian and Somali government troops then clashed with al Shabaab forces near Baidoa, the former seat of the Somali parliament that was wrestled back from rebel control last month for the first time in more than three years.

The fighting came the day after the African Union said Ethiopia planned to pull its troops out of Somalia by the end of April with soldiers from Djibouti, Uganda and Burundi taking their positions.

The governor of Bay region in Somalia, Abdifatah Mohamed Ibrahim Gesey, told Reuters that 130 al Shabaab fighters were killed in Yurkud, with minimal loses on the government and Ethiopian side.

Al Shabaab's spokesman for military operations, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, told Reuters its forces had killed 73 Ethiopian soldiers, captured two along with many weapons, and lost 5 of its fighters before the Ethiopians fled.

A spokesman for Ethiopia's foreign ministry said he would comment on the reports later.

Al Shabaab later posted an audio recording on a website, which it claimed was the voice of one of the two Ethiopian soldiers captured in Yurkud. In a Somali translation, it said the soldier admitted a number of his colleagues had been killed.

BODIES LITTER THE STREETS

Residents of Yurkud told Reuters that dozens of bodies from both sides littered the streets and that Ethiopian soldiers remained in control after fierce fighting.

It is difficult to get accurate accounts of casualties from clashes in Somalia as all sides tend to exaggerate their successes and underplay their losses. The actual death toll was probably lower than that given by the opposing sides.

"At about 6 a.m. al Shabaab attacked Yurkud. A fierce battle with the Ethiopians continued for hours. Ethiopian troops now control the town," said 56-year-old resident Halima Aden.

"Parts of the town have been destroyed. Some residents fled and others are hiding in the houses," she said, adding that bodies from all sides littered the streets.

There were also differing accounts about the fighting near Baidoa, around 130 km (80 miles) away. Al Shabaab's military spokesman said they attacked Ethiopian and Somali troops very near to the town killing about a dozen, mostly Ethiopian, fighters.

The governor of Bay told Reuters from Baidoa that they had launched attacks on two al Shabaab bases about 7 km and 11 km away from the town to pre-empt an offensive.

"We are waiting for details of casualties from our men on the ground but we have seized weapons and ammunitions, fighting has now died down," he said.

Troops from Ethiopia crossed its southern border in November to open up a third front against the militants, who are also fighting 9,000 Ugandan and Burundian troops under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Kenyan forces in the south of the Horn of Africa state.

Ethiopian forces captured Baidoa last month having seized the strategic town of Baladwayne, near the Ethiopian border, from the al Qaeda-allied al Shabaab group on New Year's Eve.

Keen to stress that its incursion is not a repeat of its ill-fated 2006-2009 war in Somalia, Ethiopian officials have said troops would only be deployed for a brief period.
