Electronic Eyeglasses Change Prescription On Command
Had enough of having multiple pairs of glasses lying around for different activities? A new breed of spectacles modifies your sight for every occasion. Maybe you need multiple pairs of eyeglasses for different situations. That's pretty wasteful. Or maybe you find that your glasses only help in certain situations. That's inconvenient.

Spotify makes a loss despite strong customer demand (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters) ? The popular digital music service Spotify made an operating loss of 26.5 million pounds ($41.5 million) in 2010, despite growing revenue more than five-fold due to increased advertising and attracting more subscribers in Europe.

The service, which offers a limited number of songs to be streamed for free or a premium subscription service, made the loss due to the royalty rates it has to pay the music industry to offer the songs.

It made a loss of 16.6 million pounds in 2009.

The group posted full-year revenue of 63.2 million pounds, up from 11.3 million in 2009, driven by a leap in advertising and subscriber rates.

It said recently it had more than 2 million paying subscribers and was set for further expansion after launching earlier this year in the United States.

"The company and the group have successfully renegotiated and renewed licensing agreements with all major European record label groups," it said in the results, filed at Companies House in London.

"The group has ambitious growth plans and has signed license agreements with a number of U.S. record label groups for the U.S. market."

The music industry and analysts have been watching Spotify closely to see how it performs in the digital music sector, particularly in competition with Apple Inc's dominant iTunes, and whether it can give the industry more power in setting prices.

"We see the development of Spotify as positive for the music industry as it could lead to genuine platform competition for iTunes, thereby increasing the value of the underlying content," UBS analyst Polo Tang said in a note to clients.

More Teen Boys Than Ever Using Condoms, CDC Reports (LiveScience.com)

A higher proportion than ever of teenage guys are using a condom the first time they have sex, according to a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report.

According to the report, which compared 2006-2010 data to numbers from 2002, eight in 10 teen males used a condom during their first sexual encounter, an increase of 9 percentage points since 2002.

The study also found that 16 percent of teen males used a condom in combination with a female partner's hormonal method, a 6 percentage point increase from 2002. [Read: The History and Future of Birth Control]

Teens and contraception

Teen pregnancy rates have been on a 20-year downward trend, and experts are optimistic that preventing teen pregnancy is a "winnable battle." The new study finds that about 43 percent of never-married teen gals and 42 percent of never-married teen males have had sex. Those numbers have remained stable since 2002. ?

Overall contraceptive use has also remained fairly stable since 2002, with 78 percent of teeange girls and 85 percent of teenage boys reporting that they used contraception the first time they had sex.

However, use of condoms as contraceptives during first-time sex did increase since 2002, as did using a condom in conjunction with another birth control method, usually hormonal birth control. Non-pill versions of hormonal birth control also became more popular among teens. Between 2006 and 2010, 6 percent of teen girls used injectable hormones, the contraceptive patch or some other pill alternative, compared with 2 percent in 2002.

Despite long-term improvements in pregnancy risk behaviors among teens, differences still exist among Hispanic origin and race groups.? Non-Hispanic black males have the highest percentages who are sexually experienced, and Hispanic males have the highest percentages using no contraceptive method at last sex.
